Neoliberal Urban Development vs. Rural Communities: Land Management Challenges in San Andrés Cholula, Mexico

Since the 1980s, municipality of San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, has been a territory with constant clashes between its rural population and official land use policy. In this context, community millenary bio-cultural traditions have collided neoliberal political economic interests, new urbanism, speculation, commodification local culture privatization public space. The above-mentioned facts represent challenge for sustainable management socio-spatial justice, as large portion is becoming private asset, meanwhile extension communal use. present work aims to discuss processes triggered by urban development logic in area, how these dynamics affected identity place, endangered heritage jeopardized right land. It will also examine possibilities creation collaborative instrument enhance participation (or pueblos originarios—original people—as they identify themselves), processes, order obtain balance community, policy forces development.
